We've been seeing it on the lot here at McLarty Daniel Buick GMC, and now the news media is figuring it out too: because of General Motors production shutdowns in March, April and May, we could soon be seeing a shortage of full-size trucks here at McLarty Daniel Buick GMC, and at a time when dealer incentives are giving us the ability to make the best deals in our history, too! With that potential shortage of full-size trucks looming, there's literally been no better time to buy a beautiful 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 than right now. If you wait, you could miss out. In a recent article titled "Coronavirus Could Make It Tougher to Find the Truck You Want" Detroit Free Press automotive writer Eric Lawrence talks to dealership owners, general managers and others who all agree that the combination of... more low production numbers in recent months and record-breaking dealership incentives could make it harder to find the full-size truck you want if you wait, with high-end models like the 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 and Denali particularly hard to find. "A potential truck shortage might sound strange in the midst of a global health crisis, which has upended daily life for so many, caused economic uncertainty around the globe and dropped vehicle demand," Gilchrist writes. "But trucks have unique attributes when it comes to inventory. They also represent a dramatically growing and crucial piece of the automotive market in recent years. Each of the Detroit Three has seen pickup sales take a larger share of total sales in the last year... GM had a 23 percent increase, according to Jessica Caldwell, executive director of industry analysis at Edmunds." The Detroit Free Press is not alone in reporting on this collision between supply, demand and incredible incentives. The Wall Street Journal, Car and Driver and International News Agency Reuters have also noticed the trend and have written recent stories on the looming truck shortage. The biggest factor at play is that General Motors temporarily shuttered all production at North American plants in mid-March, including the plants in Indiana and Michigan where the 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 is produced. Between January and March, before the plants were shut down, production averaged just under 66,000 trucks per month. Those plants still haven't reopened completely, while other GM production plants have been turned to production of PPE and life-saving equipment. Even in the face of this unprecedented production shutdown, GMC is currently helping American buyers find their economic confidence again with historic manufacturer incentives, including zero-percent financing for up to eight full years for well-qualified buyers, plus no monthly payments for 120 days when financed through GM Financial. Those offers are valid on all GM models we sell at McLarty Daniel Buick GMC, but they have caused a huge spike in demand for GMC trucks. That demand could cause McLarty Daniel GMC to have a shortage of trucks for the first time in our history, and at exactly the time when we're able to make our customers the best deals we've ever been able to offer. In a nutshell, what we're saying is: while we're confident any potential shortage of GMC Sierra 1500 trucks at McLarty Daniel Buick GMC won't last, neither will our ability to make you the best deal in the history of our dealership. While everyone at McLarty Daniel Buick GMC had been anxiously awaiting the scheduled May 20 reveal of the all-new, all-electric GMC Hummer EV supertruck, GMC recently announced that due to the coronavirus epidemic, they'll be pushing back the Hummer's reveal to a later date. "While we cannot wait to show the GMC HUMMER EV to the world," a statement released by GMC said, "we will reschedule the May 20 reveal date. In the meantime, the team’s development work continues on track and undeterred. We invite all to stay tuned for more stories on this super truck’s incredible capability leading up to its official debut." This delay is only... more building our excitement for finally seeing, hearing and driving the GMC Hummer EV, the shape of which GMC has only teased so far through a single, tantalizing image of a futuristic chrome grille and headlight package. Between the bugs, pollen, sap, oak-tree danglies, dive-bombing birds and everything else that the season brings about, springtime can be murder on your car, not only making it look bad but also potentially damaging your paint, chrome and more in the process. BUGS: Bugs can be a real pest in the springtime if you're determined to keep your car looking its best, with some insects making quite a splat on the grille, windshield or paint of your ride. To make matters worse, some insects can be rather acidic when they go splat, potentially leading to discolorations or even faded spots in your paint if you leave them there too long, especially when coupled with rising temperatures. The best way to fight bug damage is proactively, buy washing your car every two weeks and being sure to spring for the wax. The wax creates a barrier between the world an your car's paint, allowing bugs to be wiped off easily. For those stubborn, stuck-on critters, use a microfiber cloth, a little mild dish soap, and some elbow grease. SAP: Trees are some of the biggest fireworks shows of spring, helping bring us the shade that can keep us cool come August. But trees are also a pain if you own a car. Depending on the species, trees that overhang your driveway or parking spot can begin to shed excess sap, and that sticky stuff can be a real pain to remove from your paint, and can even etch your car's clear coat if left on too long. As with our tip about bugs above, the best defense against sap is a good offense, keeping your car clean and waxed with a regular trip to the car wash. With a good coat of wax, sap will often wipe right off. For those more stubborn wax issues, you may have to bring in the big guns: Dampen the corner of a microfiber cloth with some rubbing alcohol, then carefully work at the sap drip until it dissolves. This may take two or three applications, but alcohol will usually lift most saps. Wash the spot afterwards with soap and water to remove any remaining residue. BIRD POOP: Birds are another welcome harbinger of springtime, with everything from robins to hawks to small, migratory songbirds adding their voices and colors to the riot of spring. While those birds give you an automotive assist by gobbling up a lot of bugs that might wind up on our grille or windshield with a splat, the unavoidable result is that when the birds gotta go, they gotta go, often right on your windshield or paint. Depending on how big the bird is and how long it may have roosted over your parking spot, the result can be an unsightly, smelly mess. While some ignore the bird poop speckles, that's not wise, as bird poop can be a nightmare for paint, especially darker paints, even causing the clearcoat layer to lift if left on so long. There's plenty of ways to remove those Avian Number Twos, but our favorite is available at any corner store: a sugar free Sprite or other no-calorie lemon-lime soda. The mild acid from the citrus in the soda cuts bird poop like magic, and the carbonation lifts it away. Just make sure it's sugar free! For best results, dampen a paper town with the soda and place it over the spot to soften it. Leave it five minutes, and the bird poo should be a thing of the past in no time. These three methods are proven to keep your beautiful springtime into becoming a drag. Give them a try and let us know what you think. No matter what your musical tastes, studies have shown that listening to classical music while driving is a proven way to reduce stress levels. Subjects who listened to Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons," for example, saw significant reductions in their pulse, heart rate and blood pressure and decreased levels of stress hormones when compared to those who listened to other genres of music or nothing at all. Cars have great sound systems, so put those to use on a long drive by playing music that can help you de-stress. 2) DO THE STOPLIGHT STRETCH: Stress can push the levels of muscle tension in your body through the roof, without you even knowing it. Bust the stress behind the wheel with a stoplight stretch. Every time you have to sit through a stoplight, make it a habit to grip the wheel hard, and try to tense up the muscles in your body from your toes to your eyebrows. Everything that you can tense up, do so. Hold that for ten seconds, then exhale and try to let every tensed muscle release simultaneously and feel the tension drain out of you. Repeat as many times as desired before the light turns green. 3) JUST BREATHE: You've got a lot of time on your hands while you're driving, so make the most of them by practicing taking deep, cleansing breaths. One method you might try is the 5-3-5: breathe in through your mouth for a count of five, hold for three, breathe out forcefully for five seconds, then repeat. In addition to getting more oxygen to your brain and muscles, these tactics are similar to those used by people practicing meditation, and are a proven way to reduce stress. Just don't get so relaxed that you fall asleep! 4) COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS: During times like these, it's easy to get so overwhelmed with everything going wrong with the world that we don't stop to think about all the things that are going right. With that in mind, take some time during a long drive to literally count your blessings. Start with: What are ten things that I should appreciate in my life? Maybe move on to: Who are ten people who I am glad are in my life? Or: What are ten qualities about myself that make me stronger and more resilient? Put your mind on positive things, and you'll be surprised how quickly your outlook on life can improve. 5) BLOW OFF SOME STEAM: If you're alone in your car out in the countryside, that's a great time to take the opportunity to release some stress. Feeling anxious or stressed? Let it out in whatever way seems best for you and which can be done safely. Maybe that's singing along with the radio at the top of your voice, or maybe that's a long, cathartic scream. Maybe what works for you is to let loose a string of words that aren't fit for print here at the politician of your choice, or a long conversation with a loved one who is no longer with us. Whatever the case, blowing off steam by yourself is much better than blowing your stack at the people you love. And no matter how goofy it might seem, if you're alone, who is going to know? Give it a try the next time you're driving by yourself. You'd be surprised at how well it works. Hopefully, one of these methods will work for you to reduce stress while you're behind the wheel. Interstate 49 Bentonville to Alma While interstates get a bad wrap when you're wanting to do some sightseeing, Interstate 49 is no regular ol' interstate! Weaving through some of the most majestic scenery of the Boston Mountains between Bentonville and Alma, including a dip underground through the Bobby Hopper Tunnel I-49 offers some truly breathtaking views, especially from the highway bridges that span between mountains along the way, with some of the bridges over 200 feet from the valley floor below. If you've never slowed down to marvel over the engineering feat of I-49, you should, not to mention some of the beautiful sights along the way. For a slower pace on the way back (and some equally-spectacular views) pick up U.S. Highway 71 out of Alma on the way home. The Pig Trail Fayetteville to Ozark Though Interstate 40 stole a lot of the traffic from the iconic "Pig Trail" that was once one of the only sole way to get to Northwest Arkansas if you were coming from the central part of the state, if you're looking for a relaxing drive full of breathtaking sights that will really help bust those quarantine blues, the lack of traffic is a feature, not a bug. The lightly-traveled highway is great these days when you want to really slow down and enjoy the natural splendor on display. Best of all, thanks to the Interstate 49, you can take your time coming down, then pop over to Alma and hit I-49 to put the pedal down and let the ponies run. Start in Fayetteville and head south on Highway 16 at Brashears, then follow Highway 23 down to Ozark, where you'll meet I-40. Mount Magazine Scenic Byway Havana to Mount Magazine State Park Though it's hard to beat Mt. Petit Jean near Morrilton for beautiful views, when it comes to the king of peaks in Arkansas, there can be only one, and Numero Uno is Logan County's Mount Magazine, near the small town of Paris, Arkansas. Towering 2,753 feet high, with a winding road that takes you all the way to Mount Magazine State Park at the top, the only thing better that the mountain might be the drive you have to take from Northwest Arkansas to get you there. The Mount Magazine Scenic Byway runs 45 miles along Arkansas Highway 309, running from the town of Havana Yell County all the way to Mount Magazine. It is a true treasure of Arkansas scenic drives, rising more than 2,300 feet from start to finish. In the springtime, with the hills in bloom, it's an incredible journey.
