“Blinding Lights” might be a bop when it comes on the radio, but blinding lights are not fun when they come through your windshield! Every driver has experienced the pain of LED high beams wrecking their retinas or the guilt of unintentionally blinding another driver. How It Works
Automatic headlamp control, as the name suggests, means that the high beams…
of your vehicle can turn on and off automatically. Unlike traditional high beams, which must be manually switched on, automatic high beams are the default setting.
Intellibeam utilizes a sophisticated sensor that continually scans the surrounding environment for lights from nearby vehicles. This sensor can detect various sources of light, including the taillights of vehicles moving in the same direction and the headlights of vehicles in oncoming lanes. When the sensor detects other vehicles in proximity, it immediately turns off the high beams.
In the absence of other vehicles nearby, Intellibeam will automatically switch the high beams back on to enhance visibility for the driver. This means you can enjoy the benefits of high beams without the hassle of constantly toggling them on and off.

Learn More About Buick Technology
Intellibeam will now automatically detect lighting conditions and other vehicles, turning the high beams on and off as needed! This feature is dependent on your vehicle’s speed, as Intellibeam only activates high beams above 25 mph. Once your high beams are automatically activated, they will stay on until:
- The system detects an approaching vehicle’s headlamps.
- The system detects another vehicle’s taillamps in front of your vehicle.
- Exterior lighting becomes bright enough that high-beam headlamps are not required.
- Your vehicle’s speed drops below 12 mph.
- The turn signal lever is moved forward to the high beam position or the Flash-to-Pass feature is used.
Factors that May Interfere with Intellibeam
While taking advantage of this convenient feature, you may encounter a few situations that prevent Intellibeam from working properly. Here are some conditions that could interfere with your vehicle’s high beam sensor:
- The other vehicle’s lamps are missing, damaged, obstructed from view, or otherwise undetected.
- The other vehicle’s lamps are covered with dirt, snow, or road spray.
- The other vehicle’s lamps cannot be detected due to dense exhaust, smoke, fog, snow, road spray, mist, or other airborne obstructions.
- Your vehicle’s windshield is dirty, cracked, or obstructed by something that blocks the view of the light sensor.
- Your vehicle is loaded in such a way that the front end points upward, causing the light sensor to aim high and not detect headlamps and taillamps.
- You are driving on winding or hilly roads.
Intellibeam Automatic Headlamp Control is a remarkable safety feature that benefits your vehicle as well as other drivers. The ease of enabling and using Intellibeam makes it a valuable addition to the new vehicle selection at McLarty Daniel Buick GMC in Bentonville, Arkansas.
