BUICK AND EXXONMOBIL INTRODUCE NEW WIRELESS FUEL PAYMENT OPTION ON ALL BUICKS | MCLARTY DANIEL BUICK GMC

Whether you’re on a long road trip or just cruising around town, one of the biggest hassles — and one of the places where unscrupulous people increasingly swipe banking information for nefarious ends — is at the gas pump. Now, Buick and ExxonMobil have teamed up to introduce a new way to let you fill up during fuel stops without ever taking your debit or credit card out of your wallet: a new update to Buick’s Marketplace system that lets you pay for fuel wirelessly at ExxonMobil stores nationwide through your Buick’s in-dash Infotaiment touch screen.

A new update to the Marketplace app included with every new Buick car or SUV allows Buick owner to securely sync their ExxonMobil Speedpass+ fuel payment account to their car, letting them quickly pay for fuel through an app on the dash-integrated screen without swiping a credit card or using a smartphone app.

The app wirelessly detects when you are close to an Exxon or Mobil gas station pump and displays a icon on the screen automatically, inviting you to use the app. To use the app, touch the ExxonMobil icon, which identifies the station location. The driver is then prompted to input the pump number they have parked at and confirm their payment option. Confirm the charge, and your account is debited just as if you’d swiped a credit card. The pump is activated, and you’re all set for a fill up at any of over 11,000 Exxon and Mobil stores nationwide. Drivers accumulate rewards points for discounts and special offers with every fuel purchase.

“Our goal with Marketplace is to help make everyday tasks as easy as possible for our customers so they can focus on enjoying time spent in their vehicles,” said Rick Ruskin, head of Marketplace development at Buick. “Bringing the ExxonMobil pay for fuel functionality right on the touchscreen of our vehicles is the latest advancement of this platform, allowing drivers to easily access Speedpass+ and securely pay for gas while inside their car.”

The app is ExxonMobil’s first collaboration with an automaker, and the first fully-embedded in-vehicle fuel payment system. Buick owners who don’t have an Exxon Mobil Speedpass+ account can enroll for free through the Infotainment screen or their smartphone.
