Beaver Lake and Dam

2260 N 2ND

Rogers, AR

Of course, we’ll start our list with the awesome Beaver Lake and Dam that’s just 45 minutes east of Bentonville. Beaver Lake is one of the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers’ achievements and it includes elegant scenery, beautiful tall bluffs, quaint swimming beaches, and long stretches of wandering terrain to hike and explore. Plus, Beaver Lake has over 25 recreational areas and commercial marinas for great fishing opportunities.

Lake Dardanelle State Park

2428 Marina Rd

Russellville, AR

Pile the family in your GMC Yukon and head south on I-49, then hit the I-40 interstate going east to Lake Dardanelle State Park. It’s about a two-hour drive from Bentonville. The state park is situated on the 34,300-acre reservoir on the Arkansas River. The main site is in Russellville where there’s a convenient fishing pier and wandering trails, as well as a cool visitor center with five aquariums. It’s also certified by the National Park Service as a site on the Trail of Tears water route. Park interpreters lead a variety of programs and lake tours. There are 57 campsites in the Russellville area of the park and 18 sites in the Dardanelle area of the park.

Ouachita National Forest

Hot Springs, AR

To completely get away from it all for the holiday, travel to the Ouachita National Forest. This national forest is approximately 1.8 million acres stretched out across west-central Arkansas, into southeastern Oklahoma, and headquartered in Hot Springs, AR. There are five ranger districts with an overall total of thirteen camping grounds and recreation sites for a variety of camping opportunities. Recreation activities are numerous so no family member will get bored! Not only can you go swimming and hiking at Lake Ouachita, but there are wonderful spots through the Ouachita National Forest to go biking, fishing, ATV-riding, and even prospecting for unique minerals.
