We’re all about driving here at McLarty Daniel Buick GMC, and we know that even the best drivers sometimes manage to pick up a ticket along the way. While we assume our tickets are going to be related to going a few miles over the speed limit, an off-limits turn, or some other simple mistake behind the wheel, there are some driving laws in the U.S. that are downright head-scratchers, and Arkansas is not exempt. Seen below, check out ten weird traffic and driving laws that are currently on the books in the United States. And once you’ve had a few chuckles, get serious about your drive with a trip to McLarty Daniel Buick GMC! UTAH: By law, birds have the right-of-way on any street or highway. So be sure to yield to that canary.

CONNECTICUT: In Connecticut, it’s illegal for fire engines to exceed 25 miles per hour, even on the way to a fire.

DELAWARE: It’s illegal to change your clothes in a parked vehicle. No word on whether that includes RVs, but you’d probably better shower in your pants at the campground just to be safe.

FLORIDA: If you tie an elephant to a parking meter, Florida law requires you to feed the meter just as if you’d parked a car there. Better bring some peanuts to feed your elephant too, just to be safe.

MISSOURI: You are allowed to honk your own horn, but if you honk the horn of a car that doesn’t belong to you, that’s a ticket.

CALIFORNIA: It’s illegal to drive in the state of California while wearing only a housecoat.

NEW JERSEY: Accept your traffic ticket and be happy about it, citizen. It’s officially illegal to frown at a police officer in New Jersey. It’s also illegal there to pump your own gas.

OHIO: Tank on “E” while driving through Youngstown, Ohio? Better watch out! It’s illegal to run out of gas within the city limits.

WASHINGTON: Thinking of breaking the law in Washington State? Motorists who plan to break the law in any town must phone the police and inform them of their bad intentions. We sense a flaw in your cunning plan…

PENNSYLVANIA: Safety first! A very old law in The Keystone State requires motorists driving at night on two-lane highways to stop every mile and fire a flare to scare any livestock out of the road.

WEST VIRGINIA: It’s legal to eat road kill in West Virginia. So, you know, remember to keep a fork and some hot sauce in your glove compartment.

With all these weird traffic laws on the books, you might just want to stay home! Never fear, though. Most of these are clearly out of date, or passed as an inside joke. Good thing we don’t have any REAL issues for legislatures to deal with, huh? Ready to get out there and explore weird, wonderful America? Then do it in the best way there is: behind the wheel of a beautiful new GMC or Buick from McLarty Daniel Buick GMC! Stop in today, or check out our full selection of vehicles online right now.
