THREE GREAT THINGS TO DO DURING NWA CHAMPIONSHIP LPGA TOURNAMENT WEEK!

The annual Walmart Northwest Arkansas Championship LPGA tournament is back this month and bigger than ever, not only bringing in some of the world’s best golfers to compete for a $2 million dollar purse, but also serving as the centerpiece of a week-long celebration of the sights, sounds and flavors of Northwest Arkansas. This year, events associated with the Walmart NWA Championship will be held from June 18-24 at various locations, including downtown Bentonville and the Walmart AMP amphitheater. Watching incredible golfers show their stuff isn’t the only thing going on during the NWA Championship. Since the tournament was founded in 2007, it has really grown into a festival atmosphere, with plenty of things to see and do during the week. Read on for just a few of the things you can get up to during tournament week, even if watching golf isn’t your thing.

1) EAT!: A huge draw of NWA Championship week is Bite NW Arkansas. Now in its fourth year, the three-day celebration of the culinary landscape of Northwest Arkansas will run from 6 to 9 p.m. nightly from June 20-22 at 8th Street Market in downtown Bentonville. A safari of the considerable culinary delights of the region, each night of Bite NW Arkansas will feature a different theme, with chefs from the region’s best restaurants dishing up both hard-won wisdom and delicious fare from their kitchens. Tickets are $30 for each night, with proceeds benefiting the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank. They usually sell out quickly, so hurry!

2) HELP!: One in three women will face cancer in her lifetime, and the same treatments that can save a woman’s life can also make her hair fall out, potentially leaving her feeling like the face she sees in the mirror is no longer quite her own. Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths program helps women battling cancer keep up the fight by donating wigs made of real, donated hair from all over America, including at the NWA Championship. They collected over 1,700 ponytails nationwide in 2017! If your hair can be pulled into a ponytail of 8 inches or more, take a snip for the team and donate your hair at the NWA Championship! Don’t worry, you’ll grow more, and you’ll know your tresses are going to the best of good causes!

3) TWIST!: Many top athletes, like many of the women in the LPGA tour, swear by yoga for conditioning, strength training, and mental wellness benefits. For all those reasons, yoga is getting a spotlight at the NWA Championship with the Yoga on the Green event, to be held starting at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 24. Completely free with registration at the NWA Championship website, the class will be led at the Hub479 structure on the 17th hole at Pinnacle Country Club, with instructor Allisson Kublanov of Bee Well Yoga in Rogers. After the class, participants can enjoy complimentary mimosas, have a chance to win raffle items from Lululemon, and more. All skill levels are welcome, and the first 100 registered get a free gift from Youtheory.
