It’s a busy, hectic world out there, and nowhere is that more apparent than on the road. Honking horns, screeching tires, revving motorcycles and beeping crosswalks all add up to a cacophony that can put you on edge before you even get to your destination.
Always looking for new and innovative ways to make their vehicles a calm and quiet oasis from the storm, Buick Engineers have worked for years in a kind of War on Noise, with the goal of…
making Buick vehicles the quietest in the world, no matter what’s going on outside. The result is a comprehensive suite of technologies and materials choices called QuietTuning. Exclusive to Buick vehicles, QuietTuning reduces the din of the world outside to levels that make it easier to concentrate on the important stuff, like paying attention to the road and what you’ve got going on in your life.
Under development since 2000 and first introduced in the 2008 Buick Enclave, QuietTuning literally starts from the ground up on Buick vehicles, with tire manufacturers working with Buick to develop tread patterns and rubber compounds that produce the absolute minimum of road noise. At all four corners, coil spring isolators both keep the ride smooth as silk and muffle the noise of impact from bumps and potholes, while hydraulic body mounts, advanced suspension bushings, shock absorbers and isolated engine mounts reduce vibration and lower interior noise a few more decibels. Special underbody panels help smooth and funnel the air underneath Buick vehicles, further reducing noise, while slightly thicker, acoustic-laminated glass and hide-away windshield wipers reduce turbulence that can produce annoying whistles and sound.
Inside, special multi-layer sound deadening insulation is hidden between the upholstery and exterior body panels. As if that wasn’t enough, some Buick models get a high-tech assist from Bose Active Noise Cancellation. Featuring special, high-sensitivity microphones, the system “listens” for undesirable noise, then sends a signal in milliseconds to a computer for analysis before sending out indetectable sound waves from the Buick’s speakers to cancel out the noise. The human ear, meanwhile, hears nothing during this process but silence.
If the engineers and designers at Buick have put this much thought into keeping the interior of the LaCrosse, Enclave or Regal quiet, how much time and energy do you think they put into making sure your Buick is reliable, safe and packed with groundbreaking technology? Don’t take our word for it, though. Stop in today at McLarty Daniel Buick GMC for a test drive of a remarkably quiet, remarkably lovely, remarkably advanced Buick SUV or sedan!
