HUMMER

The coronavirus epidemic has caused people all over America to alter their plans to better fit the changed circumstances, and that includes the folks at GMC. While everyone at McLarty Daniel Buick GMC had been anxiously awaiting the scheduled May 20 reveal of the all-new, all-electric GMC Hummer EV supertruck, GMC recently announced that due to the coronavirus epidemic, they’ll be pushing back the Hummer’s reveal to a later date.

“While we cannot wait to show the GMC HUMMER EV to the world,” a statement released by GMC said, “we will reschedule the May 20 reveal date. In the meantime, the team’s development work continues on track and undeterred. We invite all to stay tuned for more stories on this super truck’s incredible capability leading up to its official debut.”

This delay is only…

building our excitement for finally seeing, hearing and driving the GMC Hummer EV, the shape of which GMC has only teased so far through a single, tantalizing image of a futuristic chrome grille and headlight package.

Built around all-new technology and purposely bringing the Hummer nameplate out of mothballs at GM — a name seemingly picked for irony, given that previous models built under the Hummer banner weren’t exactly easy on gas — the all-electric GMC Hummer EV seems poised to be a game changer, even with the few details GMC has released about it so far.

The numbers GMC has introduced already seem astounding, including 1,000-plus horsepower, 11,500 lb.-ft of torque — a figure so gargantuan that it blows away the torque figures of nearly everything with wheels that doesn’t run on train tracks — and a zero-to-60 time of an incredible three seconds. That’s just a few tenths-of-a-second slower than the all-new mid-engine 2020 Chevy Corvette.

Maybe the best part of all about the GMC Hummer EV is that GMC says this is no concept vehicle or design exercise. It’s a functional, all-electric, built-to-work truck that will be going into production in the next few months, with a debut in GMC dealerships by late 2021 as a 2022 model year vehicle. The future is truly now, and coming soon to McLarty Daniel Buick GMC!
