For over 100 years now, GMC has been building the trucks and SUVs of the future that you can drive right now, packed with the modern styling and cutting-edge safety and power you’ve come to expect from America’s no-compromise truck and SUV builder. GMC has never been shy about pushing the envelope when it comes to power and technology, and it looks like they’re poised to help the world make a great leap forward to a more sustainable future with the announcement of the forthcoming GMC Hummer EV. An all-electric truck with stratospheric horsepower and torque, the GMC Hummer EV is sure to take electric vehicle capability to a whole other level when the model debuts later this year.
So far, GMC has been tight-lipped when it comes to details about the…
incredible Hummer EV, releasing only an image of a futuristic front grille and headlight bar, along with some truly next-level numbers. That includes: 1,000 horsepower, 11,500 lb.-ft. of torque and a zero-to-60 time of three seconds! No, those aren’t typos!
Currently, the most powerful diesel-powered heavy-duty pickup available from an American manufacturer maxes out at just over 400 horsepower and 1,000 lb.-ft. of torque, so you can see what a quantum leap the GMC Hummer EV will be when it debuts. To put the three-second zero-to-60 time in perspective, the all-new mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette features a zero-to-60 time of 2.9 seconds, so getting close to that in a pickup truck should be a sight to behold.
GMC debuted a teaser of the new GMC Hummer EV in a 30-second spot in this year’s superbowl featuring NBA star Lebron James. “GMC builds premium and capable trucks and SUVs and the GMC HUMMER EV takes this to new heights,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick and GMC. “We are excited to debut our revolutionary zero-emissions truck during the biggest night in TV advertising.”
“Teaming up with GMC to introduce the Hummer EV is a natural fit. Everyone knows about my love for Hummer since high school and I’m proud to be a part of announcing the new EV model,” said LeBron James. “The truck may be quiet, but the performance numbers speak for themselves.”
Even more exciting is that GMC managed to keep the Hummer EV under wraps, even though it will begin production this year at General Motors’ Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant. GMC has promised a full reveal of the Hummer EV, including updated states and a look at the overall body and interior design, on May 20, 2020.
