And if you need a new vehicle to get out there, stop in today at McLarty Daniel Buick GMC!
1) There’s a pinball bar in Fayetteville: Before Candy Crush, before Farmville, even before Mario went after Donkey Kong, people all over America whiled away their quarters and some of their free time playing pinball. Though pinball machines have mostly gone the way of the passenger pigeon, there’s a place in Fayetteville that’s all about preserving these mechanical marvels for the next generation: Pinpoint Pinball Bar! Located at 23 N. Block Avenue in Fayetteville, just off the Fayetteville town square, Pinpoint features dozens of restored pinball games, old faves like skeeball and darts, plus craft beer on tap. Note: it’s adults only, 21 years old and up. Check out their website at: www.pinpointfayetteville.com
2) Newton County features over 100 waterfalls: When it comes to finding natural splendor in the great outdoors, nothing beats a relaxing hike to a waterfall, and Newton County’s waterfall cup clearly runneth over. There’s dozens upon dozens of incredible falls within the borders of Newton County, including the 32-foot Paradise Falls, the towering and beautiful Hemmed-in Hollow Falls (at 209 feet, the tallest in the state and the tallest waterfall between the Mississippi River and the Rockies), the serene, 70-plus foot Thunder Canyon Falls, and the pristine Paige Falls, which empties into a beautiful blue-green swimming hole like something out of a fairy tale. For more information about waterfalls in Arkansas and where to find them, visit the World Waterfall Database at: www.worldwaterfalldatabase.com
3) There’s a “Ninja Park” in Lowell: Let’s face it: from their black outfits to their throwing stars to their ability to strike and vanish into the darkness, ninjas are cool! While you’re probably never going to become a real life Japanese master of the deadly arts, you can hone the acrobatic skills needed to be something like a ninja to your heart’s content at Flip Side Ninja Park in Lowell. Featuring a lot of the same tricky obstacles and tests of strength found on TV shows like “American Ninja Warrior,” the park is family owned and operated, and their indoor “Ninja Gym” and outdoor obstacle course feature challenges for all ages and skill levels. For more information or to schedule a visit, find them online at: www.flipsideninja.com
4) There’s a whitewater kayak park in Siloam Springs: It’s summertime, and getting in a boat, tube or kayak and finding some tricky water is a great way to cool off. If you’re in Northwest Arkansas, there’s plenty of that, but few areas so picturesque or fun than Siloam Springs Kayak Park. Located about four miles south of Siloam Springs, the park is located along the Illinois River, and features engineered rapids and water features from mild to wild, plus tranquil pools that are great for just relaxing and drifting for a spell. Best of all, it’s totally free! You’ll have to bring your own canoe, kayak or tube, though, because there’s currently no rentals at the location, and life jackets are mandatory for boaters and tubers using the park. For more information, visit their website at www.siloamspringskayakpark.com
5) You can stay in a cave, castle or “Hobbit Hole” in Eureka Springs: When you’re looking for a romantic getaway in Northwest Arkansas, your first thought might be the perfect, entirely romantic Victorian village of Eureka Springs. If you’ve “been there and done that” though, here’s a great opportunity to kick your experience up a notch by staying in a luxurious cave, castle or “Hobbit Hole” on your next visit! Eureka Springs Treehouses, online at www.estreehouses.com, features not only the luxury treehouses in their name, but also cottages built into the rugged terrain to mimic mysterious caves, regal castles and the round-doored “Hobbit Houses” described in J.R.R. Tolkein’s “Lord of the Rings” book and film series. If you’re a fantasy fiction fiend and are looking for a night’s lodging that’s totally different, be sure to check them out. Major cool points with a spouse will result.
