What is the MultiPro Tailgate?

The MultiPro Tailgate is an innovative feature included on the GMC

Sierra 1500 and the GMC Sierra Heavy Duty. It’s made up of a primary gate and a smaller inner gate, hinged within the main gate. By manipulating these two panels in various combinations, the MultiPro Tailgate can transform and serve several different purposes.

The tailgate was developed with feedback from pickup owners to maximize its functionality and durability. You can open it using the release button on the tailgate itself, using the instrument panel button, or activating the remote key fob. It also uses a torsional spring and a damper, meaning it can be lifted effortlessly and lowered gently.

Load Stop (Primary Gate and Inner Gate)

When you’re transporting longer items such as lumber, bikes, or kayaks, the MultiPro Tailgate’s load stop feature is incredibly useful. By unlatching the inner gate panel and folding it upright, you create a vertical barrier that prevents items from sliding out of the bed.

The GMC Sierra’s two-tier loading design divides the bed into two sections, which is handy for separating cargo. The MultiPro Tailgate further supports this function, allowing the inside panel of the inner gate to unfold into an upper-tier load stop for extended cargo.

Full-Width Step

Accessing the cargo bed has never been easier! By releasing and lowering both the primary and inner gates, the inner panel can be unlatched and folded down to create a sturdy full-width bed step. This step is 48 inches wide and capable of supporting up to 375 pounds. There’s also a fold-out hand grab on the cargo box wall, which provides extra support when entering the bed.

For those who love outdoor activities, the MultiPro Tailgate is perfect for camping or tailgating parties. It offers an optional 100-watt exterior audio system by KICKER, which is integrated directly into the inner panel of the tailgate. The system includes two 4-inch coaxial drivers, a compact amplifier, controls, and a USB port for charging devices. It also supports Bluetooth and is weather-resistant!

Don’t worry about zapping your battery — the KICKER audio system operates independently from your truck. It’s designed with a low current draw so you can enjoy hours of music, and it includes a tilt switch that automatically powers down the speakers when the inner gate step is folded shut.
